Behind the Heroes

We rely 100% on donations and grants. We are privileged to be a recipient of a National Lottery Community Fund grant, but we always require additional funding, support and volunteers to meet the requirements of our Veterans in need. Let's explore some different ways that you can support us.

What your donations can provide a Veteran in need

Tommy's Voice

Behind the Heroes is working in association with Tommy's Lounge (Huddersfield) to carry out anonymous research under a project called "Tommy's Voice".


We have an anonymous survey we kindly ask veterans to fill in. This research is to assist us, and other organisations across the UK secure future funding.


The results of this survey will be collated and passed onto the Veterans Minister to steer funding for veterans affairs.

Are you a land owner


We are always looking for land to host one of our Respite Camps. If you have a field you would let us use a corner of, or similar green space please get in touch with us via our contact page.


We are fully self-contained at our camps including a portable toilet if required! We are looking for space all over the United Kingdom.

Volunteer with us

Donate to Behind the Heroes


Just £2 a month can enable a volunteer to give support, advice and signposting to a veteran in need.

A monthly donation of £5 would fund enable us to deliver a full, virtual veteran peer support session each month for up to 10 veterans.

A single donation of £10 can give a veteran in crisis access to our veteran support councillor for a 1-2-1 session.

A single donation of £15 would allow us to supply a cooked breakfast to all the veterans attending one of our respite camps.

A donation of just £30 can fun a veteran in need the chance to attend a fully funded veteran respite camp and activity weekend.

Camping Equipment


We are always looking for donations of camping equipment, activity equipment such as canoeing equipment and other such things.


If you have something you think our veterans could benefit from using at our camps please contact us and let us know.

Case Study Reports


We undertake anonymous case studies with Veterans, Spouse/Partners of veterans and People who host our camps and activities.


These are undertaken to evidence how what we do and offer benefits those who take part and also to secure further funding with third party organisations to enable us to fund more places, camps and events in the future.
