Our aim is to have multiple locations all over the UK where Veterans can meet up in a safe space to relax, enjoy conversation with like minded veterans.

Tommy's Lounge, Huddersfield
We are proud to have teamed up with Tommy's Lounge in Huddersfield for our very first Veterans Coffee Morning. Tommy's lounge is a Veteran Owned and operated cafe and coffee lounge in Huddersfield a very short walk from the train station.
The venue is named after the famous poem by Rudyard Kipling and the venue also honours a local soldier who lost his life in Afghanistan. It's full of donated military memorabilia and is a known safe space for Veterans.
Tommy's lounge is also known for it's Buy Tommy's a Brew campaign, where members of the public who use the venue can purchase anything from the menu and donate it to a visiting Veteran who may be down on their luck and in need of a good brew for free.
Tuesdays
Veterans Coffee Morning in association with Tommy's Lounge, Huddersfield
Come and join the Tommy's Team every Tuesday morning between 0900 and 1200 at Tommy's Lounge. Details on how to get there can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
Join like minded people, pull up a sandbag and join in the conversation. Share memories, stories and recount tales sparked by memories from the memorabilia on the walls in the lounge.
Our Volunteers will also be on hand to offer support, signposting, wellbeing support and pastoral care in a safe and caring environment.
If like many of us, you are finding things hard at the moment then Tommy's is the ideal place to visit. Tommy's Lounge is well known for its Buy Tommy a Brew scheme where members of the public buy menu items and put them on a post-it-note. Veterans can take a post-it from the board and redeem it at the counter.
All of the team at Tommy's Lounge are also trained in Mental Health First Aid and can offer support and advice if needed, not just on our coffee mornings.

Veterans Railcard
If you are planning to visit, why not get the train? Tommys is less than a minutes walk from Huddersfield Train Station. As a Veteran you will be eligible for a Veterans Rail Card, in some instances the card will be free. Otherwise, for a small annual fee you and your partner can enjoy discounted rail travel.

Neither Behind the Heroes or Tommy's Lounge are associated with the Veterans Railcard, however, some of the volunteers at Behind the Heroes do use the Veterans Railcard and have saved money over the cost of the card using it.
